Read the table carefully

Baccarat odds and house edge

The payout tells you what a winning bet returns. It does not tell you how likely the result is. Both matter, and the exact rules can differ from one table to another.

How often each hand wins

Under the standard game described by OLG PlaySmart, the Banker hand wins about 45.8% of rounds, the Player hand about 44.6%, and a tie occurs about 9.6% of the time. A tie is not a Banker or Player win, so those bets usually push instead of losing.

House edge on common bets

With the usual 5% Banker commission and a Tie bet paying 8 to 1, OLG lists a house edge of about 1.06% on Banker, 1.24% on Player, and 14.36% on Tie. On average, the casino keeps about $1.06 of every $100 bet on Banker, $1.24 on Player and $14.36 on Tie. Those are long-run averages; they say nothing about what will happen in one session.

BetApprox. hand result frequencyTypical house edge
BankerWins about 45.8% of rounds1.06%
PlayerWins about 44.6% of rounds1.24%
TieAbout 9.6% of rounds14.36% at 8 to 1

These are rounded figures for common rules. A different number of decks, commission, payout or game variation can change the math.

How common bets are paid

BetCommon payoutIf the hand ties
Player1 to 1 profitUsually a push; stake returned
Banker1 to 1 profit, often minus commissionUsually a push; stake returned
TieOften 8 to 1 or 9 to 1 profitWins if the hands tie

“8 to 1” means an $8 profit for each $1 bet, plus the original $1 stake if the bet wins. A $10 winning Tie bet at 8 to 1 returns $90 total. Check the table sign: Tie payouts vary, and some games have different terms. The payouts page shows these terms as a chart with worked examples.

What the payout alone leaves out

A large payout can come with a less frequent winning result. The payout by itself is not enough to compare bets. House advantage also depends on the probability of each result and the exact pay table, including commission.

For example, a standard Banker win may pay less than a full 1 to 1 after commission. The payout calculator lets you enter the commission and Tie payout shown at your table.

Can a betting system change the odds?

No progression or pattern can change the rules of the game or guarantee a profit. Past hands do not determine the next deal. If you choose to play, set a spending limit before you start and stop when you reach it.

Keep the math separate from a prediction. Baccart’s tool calculates a possible return from the terms you enter. It does not forecast the next hand or recommend a bet.
